An important event will be taking place next Friday evening, 23 September, at Newcastle Racecourse and we want local people to come and join us to be part of it.

After a £12 million investment the racecourse will be launching all-weather racing under floodlights - a first for Newcastle Racecourse - with the Flame Heating Spares Raceday

To mark the occasion, every local resident with an NE postcode can come racing for only £10. All they have to do is visit www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk click on Buy tickets for 23rd September and then enter promo code 23lights during the checkout process. Tickets must be purchased in advance of the day. On the gate price is £15. Gates open at 4.15pm with the first race at 6.15pm and the last race at 9.15pm.

The evening will be packed with entertainment including fun fair attractions, stilt walkers and fire breathers all of whom will be creating a carnival atmosphere in the lead up to the official switch on. High Gosforth Park will be lit up for the first time by 12-year-old Jack Robertson who is a regular to the racecourse and Young Hooves Club member.

The turning on of the 43 floodlights along the one mile straight marks the final stages of what has been an epic project for the team at Newcastle Racecourse who have been assisted by Stobart Group, Tapeta Footings, Musco Sports Lighting and many local companies. The new tapeta racing surface has received wide spread praise from owners, trainer and jockeys since it was launched in May.

Executive Director of Newcastle Racecourse, David Williamson, said: We are really excited to be hosting our first ever race meeting under the new floodlights next Friday. It will mark the final stage of a project that has lasted over three years. We want as many local people to come and join us for the Flame Heating Spares Raceday to mark this unique occasion.
