  • Eloise Quayle to become Clerk of the Course at Newcastle Racecourse.
  • Charlie Moore and Ben Cook take new central roles.
  • Richard Aldous and Paul Barker to take regional roles in the Midlands and North.

Arena Racing Company (“ARC”)  can announce a number of changes across the racing department, including central and Clerk of the Course roles covering the group’s sixteen racecourses.

Charlie Moore has been promoted to Head of Group Racing – Operations, with Ben Cook taking the role of Head of Group Racing – Fixtures and Funding.  Great Yarmouth Clerk of the Course Richard Aldous will take on the additional role of Regional Clerk across ARC’s midlands racecourses, with Paul Barker taking a similar role across northern racecourses alongside his current role at Southwell.  Both Richard and Paul will join Lingfield Park’s George Hill in a regional role which will see them offering support and guidance to other Clerks across their region.

Following the departure of long-standing Clerk of the Course James Armstrong, ARC are delighted to confirm that Eloise Quayle will take over the role at Newcastle Racecourse in December.  Eloise has been Clerk of the Course at Uttoxeter since January 2019, having previously undertaken the same role at Royal Windsor.

Prior to her time working on racecourses, Eloise worked as Travelling Head Person and Pupil Assistant to racehorse trainer Ben Pauling in Bourton-on-the-Water.

On her appointment to the role of Clerk of the Course at Newcastle, Eloise Quayle said, “I’m absolutely delighted to take on the role of Clerk of the Course at Newcastle Racecourse.  Having grown up in Northumberland, I am very excited to return to the North East and to be involved in working at such an historic racecourse.  The programme is of course a busy one but offers plenty to look forward to across the year with meetings like the Northumberland Plate Festival, the Fighting Fifth Hurdle and now, of course, All-Weather Championships Finals Day.”

“I would like to thank the brilliant team at Uttoxeter for their support over the last three years and to the racing staff, jockeys, owners and trainers who have attended the racecourse, it has been a pleasure to work with them all.”

Managing Director of ARC’s Racing Division, Mark Spincer, said, “I am really pleased to announce these changes to the make up of the team working across our racecourses.  We are lucky to have a talented and experienced group of people to make sure that we can keep our racecourses in the best shape to deliver for all of our customers, whether they be horsemen, racegoers or punters.

“Charlie Moore has over thirty years’ experience of Clerking, from which the whole team will be able to benefit, alongside Ben’s understanding and knowledge of the industry’s race programme and funding models.  Richard Aldous and Paul Barker will be fantastic support for their respective regions alongside George Hill in the South.”

“Eloise has proven to be an effective and popular Clerk during her time Royal Windsor and will certainly be missed at Uttoxeter, but I am confident that she will be a real asset to Newcastle once she takes on the role later this year.  Our thanks and best wishes, of course, go to James after his many years of excellent service at Newcastle.”
