Now in their third year, the 188BET Sprint and Stayers Series will offer opportunities for horses at Class Five and Six with £20,000 Finals on Sunday 16 September, the second day of the inaugural Bath Cup Festival weekend.
Both of the 188BET Sprint and Stayers Series will offer ten qualifying races between 27 June and 28 August, alongside the Final in each category. Horses will be rewarded points according to their finishing position within each qualifier, with regular runners also rewarded with a bonus nine points for running in three or more qualifiers.
The horses with most points will receive the greatest protection from elimination from their respective Final. Qualifiers in the 188BET Sprint Series will range in distance from five to six furlongs, with a 5-furlong final. The 188BET Stayers Series will offer qualifiers between 1 mile 3 furlongs and 2 miles 1 furlong, with a Final over 1 mile and 6 furlongs.
The 2017 Sprint Series winner was the Michael Attwater trained Our Lord, ridden by David Egan, whilst John Berry’s filly Hope is High was victorious in the Stayers Series (run at Great Yarmouth Racecourse in 2017).
Bath Racecourse Executive Director Russell Smith commented, “We’re really pleased to welcome 188BET to the Bath Sprint and Stayers Series, which are a real focus for our season”
“We enjoy some really great support from a large number of Owners and Trainers here at Bath, and we have been able to grow and develop these series that look to reward our regular runners. Many thanks must go to 188BET for their support, we are very much looking forward to working with them over the summer.”
Emma and John Berry, winning Owners of Hope Is High, victorious in the 2017 Stayers Series said “The Bath summer Stayers Series was the primary target last year for Hope Is High and as small owners it gave us a real boost to have a good prize to aim for when reaching the Final.
“We were delighted to win it and will be aiming to do so again this year. Bath Racecourse also does a terrific job of looking after owners and trainers and, although it’s a long journey for us from Newmarket, we always enjoy our visits there. We’re particularly grateful that Bath provides such decent opportunities for owners of stayers.”
