The Oaks is returning to GRA Limited (owned by ARC) earlier than planned, as greyhound racing continues to emerge from the pandemic and Swindon’s redevelopment is behind schedule.
This prestigious Classic event will now be held at Perry Barr and the GBGB have agreed the following dates for the competition:
|First Round||Saturday 9 October (morning meeting)||£250 winner, £50 others|
|Second Round||Saturday 16 October (morning meeting)||£300 winner, £60 others|
|Semis Finals||Thursday 21 October (evening meeting)||£350 winner, £75 others|
|Final||Thursday 28 October (evening meeting)||£15,000 winner, £1,000 others|
The competition, for 72 bitches, is the most prestigious bitches event in the greyhound calendar, with a history dating back to 1927. The total prize money purse on offer for the competition is substantial and includes a £1,000 bonus for the winning trainer.
Dave Baldwin, Head of Racing (Greyhounds) at ARC, said, ‘We are delighted to be hosting The Oaks at Perry Barr. We have a fantastic open race schedule coming up at Perry Barr with the St Leger and The John Lambe Birmingham Cup in September and with The Oaks and The Scurry Gold Cup now in October it will be a terrific couple of months. Trial slots will be made available for those wishing to enter these competitions and trainers are encouraged to plan ahead.’
