Arena Racing Company (‘ARC’) and Doncaster Racecourse are delighted to announce William Hill as sponsors of the two day Grimthorpe Chase meeting, which will take place on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 March.
William Hill’s involvement marks an expansion of their connection with Doncaster, in adding fourteen jump races across the two days to their title sponsorship of the flagship William Hill St Leger Festival in September.
At 3 miles and 2 furlongs, The William Hill Grimthorpe Chase is now seen as one of the premier trials for the Grand National in April, with recent winners going on to feature prominently in the betting for the Aintree race.
The 2017 renewal was won by Brian Ellison’s Definitly Red, who was sent off 10/1 second favourite in the Grand National, before returning to Aintree to win this season’s Many Clouds Chase and Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham. In 2016, The Last Samuri, trained by Kim Bailey, followed up his Grimthorpe Chase win with a third place in the Grand National, where he was 9/1 second favourite.
