One year on from its reopening, Hereford Racecourse will celebrate the start of the 2017/18 racing season in two weeks’ time, on Tuesday 17 October, with Central Roofing Cider & Sausage Raceday.

Racing returned to Hereford after a four-year hiatus in October 2016, and the racecourse celebrated a successful first season across twelve fixtures. Over 20,000 people came racing, with highlights of the season including the Re-Opening Raceday in October, Christmas Jumper Raceday in December and Ladies Day in March.

All of those popular racedays return for this season, and racing fans can look forward to more top-class horses gracing the track, such as Colin Tizzard’s Finian’s Oscar, who made his racecourse debut at Hereford in December.

In addition to all of the racing action, the Racecourse has been delighted to welcome local Herefordshire events, such as the Hereford Food Festival, Round Table Fireworks, trade fairs, conference and Truck Shows. Adding to the attendance at racing fixtures, Hereford Racecourse has seen over 50,000 people through the gates in its first year since reopening.

Executive Director Rebecca Davies commented, ‘It’s been a really busy year for us at Hereford Racecourse, but we’ve been delighted with the support that we’ve received from both the local and racing communities, and local businesses like Central Roofing, Chase Vodka, Cotswold MINI and Kidwells Solicitors which have backed us from the start.

‘People have been really supportive of racing returning to Hereford over the last year, and trainers in the area have been great. We crowned Richard Johnson and Kerry Lee, who are both very close to the Racecourse, as Champion Jockey and Trainer last year and we’re very much looking forward to them returning to defend their titles!’

‘Outside of racing, the local community have also been great over the last year. The support of our sponsors shows the standing of the racecourse locally and we are really grateful to everyone who has attended an event at the Racecourse over the last year.’

The 2017/18 season at Hereford starts on Tuesday October 17 with the Reopening Anniversary Cider and Sausage Raceday. Other highlights of the season include Locals Raceday (including a pre-racing business networking event) on Tuesday 14 November, Christmas Jumper Raceday on Saturday 16 December and Ladies Day on Saturday 10 March.
