Bath Racecourse today celebrates the opening of the multimillion pound Langridge Stand, which represents the completion of the refurbishment work at the racecourse. The new stand was officially opened by The Chairman of Bath and North East Somerset District Council, Councillor Alan Hale, this afternoon ahead of a celebratory lunch for local business leaders and racing industry guests in the new Royal Crescent restaurant.

Design and construction firm The Design Works Group recently completed work on the Langridge Stand, along with a full refurbishment of both the Kelston (hospitality) and various other public spaces around the racecourse. The new facilities represent a full upgrade of the facilities for customers and feature a number of different food and drink options from the Beckford Bar, serving pulled pork rolls and mini roasties, to The Roof Garden which offers spectacular views of the racecourse alongside a bar serving champagne and charcuterie sharing platters under the magnificent sailed canopy.

The Royal Crescent restaurant, named after one of the city’s most striking architectural features will offer fine dining for up to 200 on racedays and will also be one of the premier event spaces in the region, able to host conferences, events, weddings or parties, with up to 300 guests.

Owners’ and trainers’ facilities at the racecourse have also been upgraded, with a new, larger facility available adjacent to the Parade Ring, with seating inside and out. Connections of runners will be treated to a complimentary fish and chip lunch, as well as afternoon tea.

In addition to the new facilities, the race programme at Bath Racecourse has been boosted with two new race series, for sprinters and stayers, which started at the evening meeting on Wednesday 29 June. The Sprint Series, consisting of handicap races run over five or six furlongs, and the Stayers Series ranging between 1m3f and 2m1f culminate with Finals over the two day meeting on 10-11 September, with both races worth a minimum of £15,000. Horses will gain points depending on their results throughout the Series and those with the most points will receive the greatest protection from elimination when entering the Final. Racegoers at Bath will also be able to enjoy a new £40,000 Listed race for fillies this season, the Beckford Stakes, which takes place on Wednesday 12 October.

Executive Director of Bath Racecourse, Jo Hall, said, “We are delighted to open the Langridge Grandstand today, meaning that the full refurbishment of Bath Racecourse is now complete.

“It has taken a lot of hard work over the winter from the team here working with The Design Works Group. We are very happy that we’ve been able to deliver all of these fabulous new facilities on time, ready for the rest of our 2016 season and the years ahead.

“This represents a new era for Bath Racecourse and we are looking forward to welcoming all customers, from racegoers to owners and trainers, as well as all of our corporate clients to what is one now one of the smartest smaller racecourses in the country and best event facilities in the region”

The Chairman of Bath and North East Somerset District Council, Councillor Alan Hale, said, “With its stunning new facilities Bath Racecourse has not only cemented its place as one of the UK’s leading racing venues, but is now a leading regional venue for business and social events. This will have a wider positive impact on Bath and North East Somerset and the racecourse is now a major asset for the area.

“The new Langridge Grandstand with its impressive ‘sail’ canopy will become as recognisable as other Bath landmarks and shows a city that is striving forward. Arena Racing Company is to be congratulated on its investment in the area, as should the Bath Racecourse management team, the architects and developers who have succeeded in producing facilities of the highest standards, and the sponsors and supporters of Bath Racecourse who have all contributed in bringing this redevelopment to fruition.”
