Following a second set of trial gallops everything is now in place for Great Yarmouth Racecourse to commence its 2016 season with consecutive racedays on 8 and 9 June.
British Horseracing Authority Inspector of Courses, Nicky Carlisle said: “The track at Great Yarmouth is in a good condition and ready for racing next month. The bend after the finish has had some additional work and the feedback from trainers and jockeys has been very positive.”
Over the last eighteen months Arena Racing Company (“ARC”) has invested in work to ensure Great Yarmouth Racecourse has a first class racing surface, including one of the best straight turf mile courses in this country. After a disrupted 2015 season due to extreme weather conditions having an adverse impact on the relatively immature new turf the racecourse is now looking forward to hosting 18 fixtures this summer.
Great Yarmouth’s Total Prize Fund is increasing by £143,000 enabling the racecourse to offer the following improvements for the forthcoming season:
All racedays will have a prize fund of £35,000 or higher;
16 maiden races have been upgraded from class 5 to class 4 and will be worth a minimum of £7,200 and now qualify for the ‘Plus 10’ scheme;
All maiden races, irrespective of class, will be run at £1,000 above minimum values;
There are prize money increases across the season but some days have received a significant boost including Friday 24 June which has doubled in value and Sunday 28 August which has increased by £35,000 to £80,000 with all races being run above minimum values; and
The three day Eastern Festival in September will have a prize fund of £247,000 with all races being run above minimum values.
The racecourse looks forward to welcoming racegoers back with some great racing action throughout the summer along with family fun, live music and Ladies’ Night on Wednesday 13 July.
Great Yarmouth Racecourse Executive Director, Glenn Tubby, said: “The team at Great Yarmouth is grateful for the patience and continued support our racegoers, annual members, sponsors and horsemen showed during our 2015 race season. We are delighted the extra remedial work we did during the winter means the track has come on well and we are now ready for racing. As with other ARC racecourses we are making a significant investment in prize money and will continue to offer a great raceday experience for owners and trainers. We hope this will be rewarded with good fields and competitive racing. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back on 8 June.”
