New ‘1907’ Panoramic Restaurant Development to open on Saturday, 19 March 2016

With a month to go ahead of the 2016 Betfred Midlands Grand National, Uttoxeter Racecourse and Arena Racing Company (“ARC”) are pleased to announce significant prize money increases for the Staffordshire racecourse’s feature raceday.

Prize money for The Betfred Midlands Grand National, due to take place on Saturday 19 March, will rise from £100,000 to £130,000 with prize money down to 8th place. The rest of the card will also see a significant uplift, with a total of £225,000 offered on the day, an increase of £59,000 on 2015. These increases form part of the wider upgrades across Uttoxeter’s racing programme.

Four races will be shown live by Channel 4 Racing on the day, including the feature race, the Betfred Midlands Grand National, the second longest race in the jumping calendar. Two of the other races, a Novices’ Limited Handicap Steeple Chase and a two mile Novices Handicap Hurdle, have both been upgraded in 2016 to Class 2 and 3 respectively with a boost in the prize funds.

In addition to the prize money increases and race upgrades, Uttoxeter Racecourse will be celebrating the opening of the new glass fronted panoramic ‘1907’ restaurant opening for the first time on Betfred Midlands Grand National Day.

This new facility has benefitted from a £600,000 investment by ARC and is named after the year in which the racecourse was established. It will allow racegoers the chance to dine in full view of the racing action for the first time, as well as offering one of the finest conferencing and events venues in Staffordshire, throughout the year.

Executive Director of Uttoxeter Racecourse, David MacDonald, said, “We are obviously delighted to increase the prize money this year, and we are confident we can build on what has already become firmly established as one of features of the spring jump racing programme.

“The new 1907 restaurant will be a real asset to the Racecourse and will offer racegoers a fantastic dining experience, as well as conference and event business which we will be able to promote on non racedays. It will make sure that Uttoxeter Racecourse remains as one of the jewels in Staffordshire’s sporting crown. We celebrated significant growth in attendance in 2015, and developments like these will certainly help us to continue this trend.”

David Pipe, trainer of four Betfred Midlands Grand National winners between 2011 and 2014, said, “The Team at Uttoxeter should be applauded for the lift in prize money for this race. When I first won it in 2011 it was a good prize fund at £85,000, so this is some improvement.

“I am delighted to see that investment has been across the whole card which makes a great day’s racing. I hope my team will be in the shake up for the big race.”

Tickets for the Betfred Midlands Grand National, starting from £15 and rising to £42, are already available along with further information, including details of hospitality packages, can be found at
