Today Arena Racing Company (“ARC”) provides an update on its £11 million investment into Newcastle Racecourse.

The project remains on schedule with the racecourse due to host its first meeting on the new tapeta all-weather track in May 2016.

In discussions with the British Horseracing Authority (“BHA”) it has been agreed that Newcastle Racecourse will not host its scheduled jumps fixture on Friday 13 November. A replacement fixture will be held at Hexham Racecourse. This will allow work to progress in order that the racecourse will be ready to host the Grade 1 £105,000 Fighting Fifth Hurdle and the £60,000 At The Races Rehearsal Chase on Saturday 28 November.

Any customers who have booked tickets or hospitality for the fixture on Friday 13 November will be offered an alternative date (subject to availability), a full refund or be able to attend the Hexham fixture.

ARC Racing and Property Director, Stephen Higgins said: “Due to some small but necessary amendments in the schedule of works to the all-weather track construction, and in discussion with the BHA Inspectorate, it was agreed that the fixture should move to another racecourse in a timely manner to ensure the fixture takes place.”

Executive Director of Newcastle Racecourse, David Williamson said: “The team at Newcastle Racecourse would like to thank racegoers, annual members, sponsors and horsemen for their patience in this situation. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the racecourse on 28 November while the exciting transformation of Gosforth Park continues at pace.”
