Arena Racing Company supported the Retraining of Racehorses Polo Challenge at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club on Monday 2nd September by supplying the Champagne for the riders & supporters hospitality, as part of their long commitment to support the work of the charity during 2013.

The event which is a recent addition to the many initiatives ROR stage for retired racehorses is specifically aimed at ex-racers who have been retrained as Polo ponies giving them a new life and new purpose.

The competition is divided into age groups from 3yr olds up to a 6yr plus section. The horses were firstly judged on performance by demonstrating a freestyle display in front of a panel of judges, followed by a confirmation check where they gained points for suitability to play polo.

The event proved very popular with 60 horses taking part for prizes in each section of £1000 to the winner. The top 3yr old was Cash Rich by Assertive owned by Becky Blandford, a very keen supporter with a number of ponies entered in various age group sections. All the winners of the sections had raced at Arena Racing Company racecourses at some point in their racing careers.

Kate Hills, Director of PR at ARC said, “We are delighted to support the ROR as our official charity in 2013. This is one of several events and initiatives we’re supporting. It is so good to see so many horses which haven’t made it as racehorses, find a new occupation which they are very suited to. The standard was incredibly high, and even the younger ‘ponies’ put up very willing and impressive displays. The owners and riders deserve huge credit for giving these horses another life, many of whom do go on to play at high levels.”
